Royal Palace Milan

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Royal Palace Milan (Palazzo Reale) was the seat of the government of the City of Milan during the Middle-Ages, of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto and then a Royal residence until 1919. Today it is one of the main exhibition spaces and cultural centres in Milan.

The building’s current facade is the result of an 18th-century renovation project, carried out by architect Giuseppe Piermarini, as well as the later renovations carried out at the start of the 20th century, when parts of the building were destroyed to redesign the space surrounding the Duomo.

The building was heavily damaged during the 1943 bombings by Allied forces, but restored afterwards to become a symbol of Milan’s renaissance as cultural capital of Europe.
