Villa Farnesina

The Villa Farnesina is a beautiful Renaissance villa, famous for its frescoes by Rafael, Sebastiano del Plombo, Giulio Romana, Il Sodoma...It was built between 1506 - 1510, commissioned by the banker Agostino Chigi, and designed by Badassare Peruzzi.

The villa came into the hands of the Farnese family in 1577, and was later owned by the Bourbons of Naples and the Spanish ambassador, the Duke de Ripalta. 

Today the villa is owned by the state, whereas the main rooms are open to the piublic.
