Villa Medici was built for Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1549 – 1609) and houses since 1803 the Académie Française in Rome. It has a magnificent Renaissance style garden, with a breathtaking view on the St Peter's.
In ancient times, the site was part of the 'Horti Lucullani', the Garden of Lucullus (118 BC– 57/56 BC), the famous general and politician.
The French Academy was founded by Louis XIV, as part of his strategy to put his country stronger on the European map. The academy still has a great cultural luster all over the world.
The Villa Medici offers a number of prestigious event spaces: for soirées, symposia, seminars, fashion parades, dinners, screenings, concerts and professional gatherings.
