Wiligrad Castle is a partly terra cotta–trimmed Neo-Renaissance castle, built between 1896 - 1898 and was commissioned by Johann Albrecht, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, The architect was Albrecht Haupt.
The castle is surrounded by a large landscaped park and numerous outbuildings including stables, guest stables, garages, a plant nursery, a poultry house, a "cavalier" house...
The palace is owned by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and houses the State Office for the Preservation of Historic Buildings and Monuments, and the offices of the State Museum of Archaeology. An art club uses some of the rooms for exhibitions.
