The History of Science Museum, a department of the University of Oxford, houses an unrivalled collection of historic scientific instruments. The museum is located in the world’s oldest surviving purpose-built public museum building, the Old Ashmolean on Broad Street.

Approximately 20,000 objects cover almost all aspects of the history of science, from antiquity to the early 1900s.

The Museum was established in 1924 as the Lewis Evans Collection and opened to the public one year later.
