Blankenburg Castle

Blankenburg Castle dates back to 1123 and has been, since 1599, into the possession of the Dukes of Braunschweig. In 1945 Duke Ernst August and his wife princess Victoria Luise of Prussia, the parents of the later Queen Friederike of Greece and grandparents of the Queen Sophia of Spain, had to flee for the communists.

Thanks to a private initiative with objective to save it from complete neglect and give it a new life, it came into the hands of an independent entity, "Großes Schloss Blankenburg GmbH".

It has been restored gradually and is used already for exhibitions, lectures and concerts, and also for private events such as weddings....
