Cannizaro Park was, until 1949, part of the estate of the Duke of Cannizzaro. The grounds are now a public park and the house is a hotel.
The site has a sensational story of Count St Antonio, who succeeded in 1832 to the dukedom of Cannizzaro, but soon left his Scottish wife, Sophia, to live with his mistress in Italy. The sad Duchess, proud of her title, kept living on the estate until her death in 1841.
