Château Guillaume-le-Conquérant
Castles & Country Houses
Château Guillaume-le-Conquérant was the place where the historical figure of William the Conqueror was born in around 1028, although at an earlier castle. William conquered England and became king.
The ownership of the castle descended through his heirs until the 13th century when it was captured by the King of France Philip II. It changed hands several times during the Hundred Years' War and was deserted during the 17th century. Since 1840 it has been protected as a Monument Historique.
