The Dance Museum

Museums & Art Centres
The Dance Museum, opened in 1953 by the initiative of Rolf de Maré, is dedicated to the performing and visual arts, displaying uniques collections from all over the world. The visitors can admire costumes, masks and visual art related to dance and theatre.

The collection started with the private collection of Rolf de Maré (1888 – 1964), the director of the Ballets Suédois in Paris from 1920-25, and an ardent art collector.

Today, the museum presents a number of exhibitions every year, as well as a wide range of events for all ages.

Rolf de Maré was brought up in a wealthy aristocratic family. His mother, countess Ellen von Hallwyl (1867-1952), was an accomplished sculptress. She was one of the three daughters of  Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, the founders of the Hallwyl Museum. (see: https://www.tripendy.com/location/hallwyl-museum)
