The Doge's Palace, constructed in 1340 with later extensions and modifications, was the residence of the Doge of Venice. The Doge was the supreme authority of the extremely rich Most Serene Republic of Venice, 'La Serenissima', which extended over a period from  697 until 1797.

The world famous landmark became in 1923 a museum.

One of the best known room is the Chamber of the Great Council, decorated by artists such as Veronese, Jacopo and Domenico Tintoretto and Jacopo Palma il Giovane.

The Doge's Palace is managed by the Fondatione Musei Civici di Venezia.
