The Dyffryn Estate goes back to 640 AD, however the present house and garden were created at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century for the coal magnate John Cory and later his son Reginald.

The park and garden were mainly laid out by Thomas Mawson and cover 22 ha (55 acres). The gardens have been restored to their original splendour by the National Trust, and include a large lawn with seasonal bedding, a croquet lawn,  Pompeiian Garden, Pavet Court, Reflecting Pool, a Mediterranean garden, glasshouse, statuaries, an arboretum...
