Hermitage Amsterdam, a branch museum of the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, presents the world heritage of one of the greatest museums, to Dutch and international visitors. The museum is housed in the former 'Amstelhof', the ‘Diaconate Home for Elderly Women’, dating from 1683.
The construction of the Amstelhof has been made possible by the rich merchant Barent Helleman, who had left his fortune of 90,000 guilders to the Diaconate of Amsterdam.
