Knightshayes Court is a 19th century house in Gothic Revival style, and built for Sir John Heathcoat-Amory, 1st Baronet. His family has got wealthy by the lace-making industry. The house is surrounded by magnificent gardens, parkland and woodland.
Knightshayes Court was designed by William Burges and is a good example of his work. The house is full of quirks and curiosities.
The grounds and gardens, mainly designed by Edward Kemp, have much to offer. They include a walled kitchen garden, the Paved garden, Formal Garden, Pool Garden, Garden in the woods, Michael's wood, the English woodland walk, the Arboretum, Sir John's wood...
Since 1973, Knightshayes Court is in the hands of the National Trust.
