Museum of Rome, Palazzo Braschi
Museums & Art Centres
The Museum of Rome (Museo di Roma), established in the 1930s, has evaluated from a museum of cultural history towards a museum of art with wonderful collections of paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures...thanks to numerous donations and acquisitions over time.
The palazzo was designed by the architect Cosimo Morelli (1732-1812) and built for Luigi Braschi Onesti, the nephew of Pius VI (1717 - 1799), who was elected Pope in 1775. The construction was made possible by the wealth accumulated thanks to the unprincipled granting of many privileges from the Pope to his nephew.
