Museums & Art Centres
The Museum of Slavonia, opened in 1877 as the Royal Museum of the City of Osijek, is dedicated to the protection and presentation of the cultural heritage of Slavonia, the historical land that was a separate principality in the ninth century.

The museum's collections contain over half a million exhibits, including a rich archaeological and numismatic collection, folk art collections and techniques, as well as a library of 70,000 volumes.

The most valuable department in the collection of the Museum of Slavonia is the collection of 130,000 numismatists, including coins, banknotes, stamps, securities and medals. The museum has the world's largest collection of medieval Croatian coins.

Since 1946 it is housed in a building from 1702, which was formerly the seat of the city authorities.
