Piccolomini Library is a majestic building, constructed around 1492, in honour of Pope Pius II, by his nephew Cardinal Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini, archbishop of Siena (later Pius III), to preserve Pope Pius' rich collection of books and manuscripts.
It is famous for its beautiful frescoes painted by Pinturicchio and his workshop, between 1503 and 1508.
