Fontfroide Abbey has a long history which dates back to the 11th century. It was rather neglected when it was bought in 1908 at auction by Artist and curator Gustave Fayet and his wife, who restored the buildings and garden.
Today the Abbey still remains in private hands, and visitors are most welcome.
The Rose Garden hosts almost 2,500 roses with various rose varieties, old or more recent creations.
The terraced Italian Gardens continue to be their developed by the family.
There is also a farm, a vineyard, the vault, where you can buy its wine, a restaurant, a shop, a bookshop...
Fontfroide Abbey is furthermore hosting concerts, music festivals, The Musical Gustave Fayet Residences with masterclasses...
