Botanical Garden Krakow established in 1779 as one of Europe's first scientific institutions of this kind, is Polish oldest Botanical Garden.

The Botanical Garden adjoins the Krakow university's Astronomic Observatory, a Renaissance palace rebuilt in 1792 and which acquired its present form after refurbishment in 1859.

You can see here (except during the winter) around 5,000 plant species -exotic and native- in the open air as well as in greenhouses (the first great palm house was build 1882). Visit also the Garden of Healing Plants with various herbs.The 300-year-old Jagiellonian Oak proves a sole relic of vast primeval forests covering once the whole region.
