Castle & Park Babelsberg

Castle & Park Babelsberg has been built for Emperor William I and his wife Augusta von Sachsen-Weimar, when he was still Crown Prince. It is surrounded by terraced gardens, created by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and Peter Joseph Lenné.

Babelsberg was first constructed in 1833-1835, by the famous architect Schinkel, and later 1844-1849 extended by the architects Ludwig Persius und Johann Heinrich Strack. 

It has been a lively centre of the couple's social life.

Babelsberg is also a venue for cultural events, such as concerts.

The castle and park are open to the public. Due to renovations it will, from April to October 2019, the palace will only be open on special weekends for some special events, such as concerts and guided tours.
