Gawthorpe Hall dates back to the 17th century, and was built for the Shuttleworth family. It was redesigned in the 1850s by Sir Charles Barry, designer of the Houses of Parliament and 'Downton Abbey', Highclere Castle.
The house contains portraits from the National Portrait Gallery and The Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, amassed by Miss Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth.
The Hall has a terraced garden and a woodland garden with rhododendrons and azaleas
