Museums & Art Centres
The Larne Museum & Arts Centre is housed in the historic building, opened in 1906 as the Carnegie Free Library, following financial assistance from the American millionaire and philanthropist Mr Andrew Carnegie. Its permanent exhibition is focused on the agricultural, industrial, military and maritime history of the area.
The temporary exhibitions gallery has been named after John Clifford, a local actor, poet, musician, and the first curator of the museum.
Larne is a principal gateway into Northern Ireland and the strong maritime links of this east Antrim coastal community is reflected in the museum's philosophy.
