Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
The Musée d'Archeologie Nationale (National Archaeology Museum), opened in 1867 and housed in the former royal palace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, is an archeology museum, covering pre-historic times to the Merovingian period.
The museum contains one of the richest archaeological collections in Europe, whereas only ten percent of it can be displayed.
The Palace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye was one of the most important royal palaces in France before the construction of Versailles. Louis XIV was born here.
It is surrounded by a Baroque garden, designed by Le Notre, and is 2.5 km long.
