National Park Miljet

Gardens & Parks, Monuments & Sites
The National Park Mljet is one of the eight stunningly beautiful national parks in Croatia, and it is situated on the island of Mljet, one of the largest islands in south Dalmatia, covering 5300 hectares of the northwest part of the island.

Due to its lush and rich vegetation, Mljet is the greenest Croatian island with beautiful bays, beaches, sea caves, native species, and archaeological finds.

The central parts of the park are Veliko jezero with the Isle of St. Mary, Malo jezero and the villages of Goveđari, Polance and Pomera. On the Isle of St. Mary, you find a Benedictine monastery with the Church of Saint Mary built in the 12th century.

90% of the park is covered by forest, most of which is alepski bor (Aleppo pine), a tree that can reach up to 20 meters high.

The two lakes, the Great Lake and the Small Lake, are deep sea bays formed by rising sea levels.
