Ness Botanic Gardens

Gardens & Parks
The Ness Botanic Gardens were created by a cotton merchant, Arthur Kilpin Bulley, in 1898, and opened it to the public. In 1948, after his death they were presented by his daughter to the University of Liverpool, included an endowment of 75,000 Pounds.

This under condition that the public should continue having access.

Ness gardens include a woodland garden, herbaceous borders, heather garden and rock garden.

From 1957 onwards, the newly appointed Director, Ken Hulme, realised a more realistic setting for the plants, whereas today the beauty of the Gardens remains, but there is an increasing emphasis on research, conservation and education of the public, according to Bulley's original objectives.
