The Orto botanico di Pisa dates back to 1544, and is managed by the University of Pisa. It is the first university botanical garden in Europe. The gardens contain a botanical school, ponds and greenhouses. There is also a Museum and a library.
The greenhouses are one of the earliest of its kind in Italy.
