Castles & Country Houses, Private Collections
Schenna Castle, today the family home of descendants of Archduke John of Austria and his legendary wife Countess Anna of Meran, is open to the public and where you can admire elegant rooms, a Renaissance hall with faience oven dating back to the 18th century, a painting gallery, a weapons collection dating back to the 12th to the 19th century, as well as the biggest private collection of Andreas Hofer, the famous Tyrolean freedom fighter.

The castle was built in 1350 and has changed ownership many times. Before it became in the hands of Archduke John of Austria in 1845, it had been the property of Lords of Starkenberg, Emperor Maximilian I, the Counts of Lichtenstein, the Counts Bettoni.

Part of the castle complex is also the Thurnerhof, a farmstead and tavern, as well as a mausoleum in neo-Gothic style, with the tombs of Archduke John and his family.
