University of York Campus was constructed in the 1960s on the grounds of Heslington Hall, and covers over 81 ha (200 acres). It was planned by Robert Mathew Johnson Marshall, with Frank Clark as the landscape consultant.

The parkland, with its lakes and wetlands, is famous for its wildfowl and other wildlife.
