Villa Medici, Fiesole
Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Villa Medici, Fiesole, was built between 1451 and 1457 for Giovanni de Medici, and most probably designed by Leon Battista Alberti (1404 – 1472), the Renaissance architect, humanist, artist, poet, philosopher and mathematician.
Consequently, the villa might be considered as the very first example of a Renaissance villa: that is to say it follows the Albertian criteria for rendering a country dwelling a "villa suburbana".
Visitors are allowed only in the garden and by prior arrangement.
