Castle Ettersburg, a former hunting lodge of the Dukes of Weimar, became mid 19th century during the times of the Duke Carl Alexander and his wealthy intellectual Dutch wife Sophie of Orange-Nassau, a lively meeting point for the cultural elite.
Ettersburg is surrounded by two parterres and a landscape park, created by the famous Eduard Petzold and Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau.
