Tiefurt House & Park

Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks, Museums & Art Centres
Tiefurt House (41 ha)were transformed from a simple house into a small stately home, surrounded by an English landscape park, by Prince Friedrich Ferdinand Constantin of Sachsen-Weimar and Eisenach around 1781.

He was the jungest brother of the ruling Duke Carl August.

From 1781 on, Duchess Anna Amalia used Tiefurt as a summer residence, which became a lively centre for the court.

She continued to improve and embellish the garden.

After her death, it was somewhat neglected, however it was restored again between 1846 and 1850 by the famous landscape architect and Court Gardener Eduard Petzold.

Today the mansion houses an interesting collection furniture, sculptures, porcelain, drawings, etc., from Duchess Anna Amalia and the Ducal family.

Tiefurt House, now a museum, and its park, are open to the public.
