Centre of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle

Museums & Art Centres
Ujazdowski Castle, as we see it today, was built in 1624 by the King of Poland Sigmund III Vasa, as his summer residence. Today it houses the Centre for Contemporary Art, with its collections and temporary exhibitions, concerts and educational workshops.

History: The castle foundations date back to the 14th century. On this spot the Polish queen of Italian origin, Bona Sforza, constructed a small stone residence, which was followed by the already mentioned construction of King Sigmund III Vasa in 1624. After it was burnt down by the Swedish army in 1655, it was reconstructed by the architect Tylman van Gammeren, who gave it a more Baroque style, commissioned by the Lubomirski family.

During WW II, it was burnt in 1944 by the Germans, and rebuilt in 1988.

The castle is also a venue for private, cultural and corporate events such as conferences, dinners, meetings, concerts....
