Château Royal de Provence-Château de Tarascon

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
Château Royal de Provence-Château de Tarascon dates back to 1401 when Louis of Anjou started to build a new castle after the previous one was destroyed. Today it is owned by the state and is used for permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Very often the castle is referred to "the castle of King René", because it was his favourite residence. He refined the interior between 1447 an 1449.

It was used as a military prison in the 17th century, until its acquisition by the state in 1932.

The castle is showing exhibitions around two themes:

I.  Heritage and History

II. Heritage and Contemporary Art.
