The Founding Museum tells the history of the Foundling Hospital, which continues today as the children's charity Coram. Today the museum houses two important collections, The Founding Hospital Collection and the Gerald Coke Handel Collection. It celebrates the ways in which creative people have helped improve children's lives for over 275 years.

The Foundling Hospital was established in 1739 by the philanthropist Thomas Coram to care for babies at risk of abandonment.  Instrumental in helping Coram realise his vision were the artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel.

Hogarth encouraged leading artists of the day to donate work, whereas Handel donated an organ and conducted annual benefit concerts of Messiah in the Hospital’s chapel.

In addition, the museum offers a lively programme of concerts, workshops, talks and special events, all enjoyed within beautiful 18th-century interiors.

The museum is also a venue for Film, TV, Photo shooting, corporate and private events, such as meetings, receptions, weddings...
