Galleria Regionale della Sicilia

Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
The Regional Gallery of the Sicily is divided in three fundamental sections. The first one is the 15th century Abates Palace (Palazzo Abatellis). The second is the contiguous seventeenth's century wing, accommodating the laboratories of restoration and the administrative offices. Third, the Oratorio dei Bianchi will soon receive the collections of the seventeenth century sculpture.

The museum contains a significant number of works originally from the religious orders, suppressed in 1866. It includes the famous Renaissance painting, the 'Virgin Annunciata', made by Antonello da Messina (1430 – 1479)

The Abatellis palace was designed in the 15th century by Matteo Carnelivari and was the residence of Francesco Abatellis (or Patella), port master of the Kingdom of Sicily. Thereafter it became a female monastery until it was restored after WW II and used for Regional Gallery of the Sicily.
