Musée National Picasso-Paris
Castles & Country Houses, Museums & Art Centres
Musée National Picasso-Paris is dedicated to the works of Pablo Picasso (1881 – 8 April 1973), painter, sculptor, ceramist, printmaker and theatre designer, and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
The museum contains an impressive amount of works of art from his hands (over 5000) and even much more of his personal memorabilia.
The bulk of it came from donations, 'dations', of the family, instead of inheritance tax in money.
The museum is located in one of the finest examples of a 'hôtel particulier', 'Hôtel Salé' built mid 17th century for the rich (salt)tax collector ('farmer'), Pierre Aubert, seigneur de Fontenay.
