The National Portrait Gallery, opened in 1856, was the first gallery of its kind and features portraits, drawings, sculptures and photographs of historical British figures. The gallery holds the most extensive collection of portraits in the world, from the 16th century to the present day.
The gallery has an outpost in Somerset at Montacute House.
