Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Museums & Art Centres
Ptuj Castle, dates back to the mid-12th century, as a defence fortress. It was owned by the Jesuits of Zagreb for a while, but was sold in 1656 to the Holy Roman Field Marshal Walter Leslie, a Scot by birth, who transformed to castle into an elegant residence. In 1802 it came, by inheritance, into possession of the Counts Dietrichstein until 1864. The last owners, counts Herberstein, had it in their possession from 1873 to 1945.

In 1945 it was nationalised and with its rich equipment and furniture, annexed to the Ptuj museum.

Nowadays the castle of Ptuj hosts the most visited and representative collections of the Regional Museum Ptuj-Ormož: weapons, musical instruments, traditional carnival masks, feudal dwelling culture, glass paintings and castle gallery. There are also temporary exhibitions on a regular basis.

Festival Hall is the most representative hall of the castle, suitable for various solemn corporate and private event, such as weddings. Couples can get married in the Festival Hall of Ptuj Castle every Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00pm, excluding public holidays.
