Château de Virieu

Castles & Country Houses
Château de Virieu, constructed early 11th century by Wilfred de Virieu, passes trough marriage in the hands of the de Clermond family in 1220. However, more than 800 years later (!), in 1874, the count de Saint-Ferriol sells it to Alphonse de Virieu, a descendant from the original builders.

Le Château de Virieu is inhabited in the summer by the descendants of the de Virieu family.

The castle is open to the public, where can admire the room of Louis XIII, as it was when he visited the castle in 1622 and left behind his cannons.
