Gardens & Parks
Derby Arboretum was commissioned in 1840 by Joseph Strutt, an wealthy businessman and philantropist. His objective was to have created a botanical tree garden for education and leisure, to be enjoyed and owned by the people of Derby.
The gardens were designed and planted by the celebrated John Claudius Loudon. The two Tudor style lodges were designed by Edward Buckton Lamb, the well known architect, who has been responsible for many notable buildings, such as Hughenden Manor, which he redesigned in 1862.
