In the 18th century the palace was enlarged and embellied in Baroque style. It was also the residence of Stanislaw Leszczynski after the Habsburgs exchanged Lorraine for Tuscany, which brought the former under French control. After Stanisław's death, his Duchy came into the hands of King Louis XV, his son-in-law.
