Greenway, Agatha Christie House

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks
Greenway, a 18th century house, has been the holiday home of the world famous author, Dame Agatha Christie. She and her husband, the archeologist Max Mallowan, bought Greenway in 1938 and came there until their death.

Greenway estate, around 121 ha (300 acres), was donated to the National Trust by the family in 2000. Shortly afterwards the gardens were opened to the public, whereas the house remained the private home of her daughter and son-in-law, Rosalind and Antony Hicks. After the couple passed away in 2004 and 2005, the house was given to the National Trust. The house's content was donated to the Trust by Agatha's grandson, Matthew Pritchard. The house was, after careful restoration, opened to the public in 2009.

The house is as Agatha and her family left it, the library, her Steinway piano, Tunbridge-ware, silver, china, archeological objects...

The magnificent gardens have lots to offer, such as the walled gardens, with the peach house, vinery, vegetable plot and Galmpton School allotment, the Clock Golf, the Fernery with the dog cemetery,  the Top Garden with its beautiful summer border, the Battery (a Napoleonic defence in the 1790s.) and Boathouse...

Greenway is also a venue for small weddings, exclusive ceremonies for up to 30 guests in the beautiful Dining Room, followed by drinks and canapés.
