Hermitage Foundation and its museum are located in an elegant mansion, overlooking the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the lake, built in 1841 for the banker Charles-Juste Bugnion. The foundation was created by his descendants in 1976, containing major national and international artists such as Bocion, Degas, Magritte...

The mansion and a part of the park were donated to the City of Lausanne at the same period.

Since its inauguration in 1984, the foundation has received numerous donations, such as an exceptional bequest by Lucie Schmidheiny comprising works by Giandomenico et Lorenzo Tiepolo, Henri Fantin-Latour, Edouard Vuillard, Edgar Degas and Georges Braque. More recently the collection has been enriched by a significant ensemble of paintings and drawings by Suzanne Valadon.

Every year the foundation organizes two to three large exhibitions of international importance.

The Fondation de l’Hermitage is also available as a venue for corporate and private events, such as receptions, weddings...
