House of the Black Heads
Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Monuments & Sites, Museums & Art Centres
The House of the Black Heads is one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga. It was constructed in 1334 for the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a guild for unmarried merchants, shipowners, and foreigners in Riga, as part of the Riga Town Hall Square ensemble.
Today it serves as a museum, as well as one of the most important venues for organising celebrations in the city. For centuries, the House of the Black Heads has served as the city’s main building for the reception of distinguished guests.
The building was destroyed during WW II, but has been carefully reconstructed.
Today the visitors can enjoy the great ballrooms and the historical cabinets, where the President of Latvia took residence during the reconstruction of Riga Castle, the official Presidential residence.
The monumental building also includes a souvenir shop, offices and a 5D cinema.
