Kilkenny Castle's history goes back to 1195 and has been in the hands of the Butler family since 1391. In 1967 Arthur Butler, 6th Marquess and 24th Earl of Ormonde presented it to the people of Kilkenny for a token payment of £50.
The handover also marked the foundation of The Butler Society, and after serious restorations the castle and gardens have been opened to the public.
Kilkenny Castle is also a venue for corporate and private events, such as receptions, weddings...
