The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, housed in the Riga Dom Cathedral ensemble, displays in 16 exposition halls the history of Riga of over more than 800 years, as well as its shipping history from the 10th century until today.

The museum has three branch museums: the Museum of Ainazi Naval School in Ainazi (founded in 1969), the Riga –Mentzendorff’s House, and the Latvian Museum of Photography (1993).

The 13th–20th century Riga Dome Cathedral ensemble  comprises a church, the gothic Cross Gallery, and the museum including the 18th century Column Hall, built in Classicism style in place of the former monastery.
