Museums & Art Centres
The Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa, located in a former Carthusian monastery, the Pisa Charterhouse, is a Natural History museum housing one of the largest collection of cetaceans in Europe and includes halls for dinosaurs.
The museum was founded in the 16th century (1596) by Grand Duke Ferdinand I of Toscany with specimens from the Medici Florentine palaces.
The monastery was founded in 1366/67 but was abandoned after WW II, which made it available to house the museum.
