Rousham House

Castles & Country Houses, Event, Film & Wedding Hire, Gardens & Parks, Private Collections
Rousham House has been in the hands of the Dormer-Cottrell family since it was built in 1635 by Sir Robert Dormer. The house, remodelled in the 18th century by William Kent and also altered in the 19th century, contains the fine family collection.

The collection consist of fine Jacobean and 18th century furliture, portraits, paintings, bronzes and other objects of art.

The surrounding gardens were also designed by William Kent (1685-1748). His landscape design has hardly been altered and the garden still contains many 18 th century features such as the ponds and cascades in Venus’s Vale, the Cold Bath, and seven arched Praeneste, Townsend’s Building, the Temple of the Mill, and a sham ruin known as the ‘Eyecatcher’.

The gardens are open to the public every day; the house is open by appointment.

Rousham is also a venue for TV, Film & Photo shooting, corporate and private events, such as receptions, weddings...
