Castles & Country Houses, Gardens & Parks
Sizergh Castle came by marriage in the hands of the Strickland family in the 13th century. It is set in a 647-hectares (1,600 acres) estate.

In 1950 it was given to the National Trust by Lt. Cdr. Thomas Hornyold-Strickland, 7th Count della Catena. However the family continues to live there.

The house contains the family collection and memorabilia, brought together by the successive generations, with centuries-old portraits and fine furniture, photographs...The exceptional wood panelling culminates in the Inlaid Chamber, returned here in 1999 from the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The garden includes several separate gardens, a limestone rock garden, pond, lake...
