Alüksne New Castle was built from 1859 – 1863 in the style of English neo-gothic and commissioned by Baron Alexander von Vietinghoff. The v. Vietinghoff Family owned the estate until the Agrarian Reform in 1920. Now the castle houses the Alūksne museum and Nature museum.
The last owner of the castle was baron Arnold von Vietinghoff, who left for Germany In 1918 taking with him part of the interior and art works.
