Carisbrooke Castle has a long history, having been a military fortress, a Royal prison and a Royal residence. Charles I was imprisoned here and two of his children were confined at the castle. His daughter Elizabeth died here.
From 1896 to 1944 it was the residence of Princess Beatrice, the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, who was Governor of the Isle of Wight.
At the castle the visitor can enjoy the residence monkeys, the Norman Keep and Wall Walk, the restored Beatrice Garden and the Castle Museum.
